Window Mesh Prices in Singapore: What Drives the Quote and How to Compare Fairly

Why window mesh in Singapore is quoted per opening, the five things that move the price, why two quotes for the same window differ, and how to compare like for like.

Ask "how much is window mesh in Singapore" and you mostly get "WhatsApp us for a quote". We know that is frustrating when you are trying to budget, so here is the honest reason behind it, and everything you need to read a quote properly. We do not publish prices in our articles, and this piece explains why the number moves so much, what to send to get an accurate figure, and how to line up two or three quotes so you are comparing the same thing.

Why nobody gives one number

Window mesh is custom-cut. The same product on a narrow toilet window and a wide living room window is two very different jobs: different amounts of mesh and aluminium, a different cassette size, sometimes a double opening with two rollers. Add the mesh choice (a budget insect weave versus a cat-rated stainless steel 316 or pet mesh) and the frame's load rating, and a "per window" price only makes sense once someone has seen the window.

That is why installers, us included, ask for photos or a site visit first. It is not to hide the number; it is because a number given blind is usually wrong in one direction or the other.

What actually drives the price

Five things move a window mesh quote, in roughly this order.

  1. Size of the opening. Mesh is priced on the area it covers, so a big living room window costs more than a small toilet window, and a full-height balcony door costs more than either. Some vendors quote per square foot; we quote per opening with the size built in.
  2. Mesh type. Fibreglass is the budget insect mesh. Polyester is clearer and stronger but not for scratching cats. Stainless steel 316 costs more because it is corrosion resistant and cat-safe for calmer cats. Pet mesh (PVC-coated polyester) is the most popular for active cats. Our mesh types page has the trade-offs.
  3. Frame and load rating. A 70+ kg frame has heavier hardware than a 20+ kg one. With a cat in the home, 50+ kg is the sensible baseline and 70+ kg for active cats, so budget for Core or Pro rather than Base. Our strongest window mesh guide explains why the rating has to be so far above the cat's weight.
  4. Doors. Full-height openings cost more than windows, so a wide double sliding door is one of the pricier items in the flat. See our mesh doors guide.
  5. Drill or no-drill. Our windows go up with tape and silicone; doors are screwed. Some vendors drill everything, so if you rent or want to avoid holes in HDB frames, ask what method the quote assumes.

A 2-in-1 setup (mesh plus sunshade or blackout in one frame), custom openings, and how many windows you do in one visit also nudge the number. Doing the whole flat in one trip is almost always cheaper per window than doing two now and three later.

Where our models sit

We do not put figures in articles, but the order is simple. Base is our most affordable model, an insect-only frame that also suits chill pets. Sleek is the boxless option for tight recesses and rubbish chutes, with reinforced stainless steel 316. Core, our most popular cat mesh, and Pro, for active cats and long windows, sit above it, and Door carries Pro specs for balcony and main doors, priced per door panel. The product cheatsheet lays all five side by side, and once we have your photos we tell you which fits and what it comes to.

Why two quotes for the "same window" differ so much

Because they are often not the same product. Common reasons a cheaper quote is cheaper:

  • Different mesh grade. Insect-grade fibreglass on a 20 kg frame versus pet mesh on a 70 kg frame with a child lock. Both are "window mesh".
  • Per square foot versus per opening. A per-square-foot rate looks low until the minimum charge per panel and GST are added; a per-opening price already includes them. Ask for the all-in figure for your list of windows.
  • What is left out. Doors, toilet vents and the kitchen window are the openings most often missing from a low quote. Make sure every opening is on every quote.
  • Installation method and after-care. Drilled versus drill-free, whether a site visit is included, warranty length, and what service costs after the warranty ends.

DIY and budget options, for comparison

The cheap end of the market is DIY: adhesive velcro or magnetic nets from Daiso, Shopee, Lazada or Taobao, cut and stuck on yourself. They cost a small fraction of a custom-fitted frame and are fine for insects on a plain window a cat cannot reach. What you give up is the seal (tape lifts in humidity and after washing), the lifespan, and any load rating at all; our magnetic vs retractable comparison goes through a year of ownership. Cat safety nets sit between DIY and framed mesh, and our cat mesh vs cat safety net article compares them properly. One misconception worth clearing up: a professionally fitted magnetic screen (ours included, we carry a simple magnetic clip-on format for insect-only windows) is often not much cheaper than an entry-level retractable frame such as our Base. The saving people picture is the DIY kit, not the magnet.

Once a cat is involved, or the window has grilles, blinds or a tight recess, the DIY savings tend to disappear into re-taping and replacements. Our how to install a window mesh guide covers when DIY is enough.

How Singapore vendors structure their quotes

We checked the sites of the options people ask about most. Where a vendor does not publish how they price, we say so rather than guess.

OptionHow their site says they price
ClarioPer-panel quote after a demo; not published on their site
Magic Cat MeshQuote by request
IrusuShowroom visit and quote
MozziefyCharged per square foot with a minimum price per mesh, plus GST
Seiki ScreenMeasured by coverage area and system, otherwise on request
LuxusWhatsApp or showroom quote
BlindNetQuote from photos
MeshMates (us)Per opening, quoted from photos, confirmed at a free site visit

None of this makes any of them expensive or cheap. It just means the only way to compare is to send the same list of windows to two or three vendors and ask for the same mesh grade. If a Clario demo got you interested, our Pro is the like-for-like model to price against it: same 70+ kg class with a high-transparency polyester option. Our Clario alternatives roundup covers the wider field.

What to send for an accurate quote

You will get a much tighter figure, from anyone, if you send:

  • A photo of each window and door from inside, showing the frame, any grilles and any blinds.
  • A rough width and height if you have a tape measure handy.
  • Whether there is a cat (and how active), or whether it is insects only.
  • Whether you rent, so drill-free matters.

WhatsApp us that and we reply with a range. If it looks right, we come down for a free site visit with mesh samples, measure properly, and give a firm price with nothing hidden. No obligation, and if DIY is genuinely the better fit, we will say so.

Frequently asked questions

How much does cat mesh cost per window in Singapore?

It depends on the window size, the mesh (stainless steel 316 or pet mesh for cats) and the load rating of the frame, which is why we quote from photos rather than publish figures. Bigger windows, double openings and pet mesh for active cats push the figure up. Ask two or three vendors for the same windows and the same mesh grade so you compare like for like.

How much does it cost to mesh a whole HDB flat?

The total depends on how many openings you count and what each needs: a 3-room flat with five small windows and a 5-room with a wide living room window and a balcony door are very different jobs. Doing every opening in one visit is cheaper per window than spreading it out. Send us photos of every window and door and we will price the whole list.

Is DIY window mesh worth it?

For insects on a plain window with no grilles or blinds, often yes: adhesive nets are cheap and easy. For cats, no. Tape and magnets carry no load, and a retractable frame rated to 50+ kg or more is the safe option. Factor in re-taping and replacements before deciding the DIY route is cheaper over a year.

Why do quotes for the same window vary so much?

Because they are often not the same product. One quote may be insect-grade fibreglass on a 20 kg frame, another pet mesh on a 70 kg frame with a child lock, and a third priced per square foot with a minimum charge. Ask each vendor to state the mesh material, load rating, installation method and warranty on the quote so you compare like for like.
