How to Install a Window Mesh: DIY Steps vs Professional Fitting

1. Clean the frame thoroughly. Adhesive is only as strong as the surface under it. Wipe the mounting surface with soapy water, rinse, then dry completely.
2. Dry fit everything first. Hold the mesh and strips in position before removing any backing paper. Check the mesh covers the full opening with overlap on every side, and that windows still open and close.
3. Apply the tape or magnetic strips. Work along one side at a time, pressing firmly as you go. Corners matter most: they take the most stress and are where DIY installs usually fail first.
4. Press the mesh on. Start from the top, keep light tension so the mesh sits flat without waves, and smooth it onto the strips edge by edge.
5. Trim the excess. A sharp blade against the frame line gives a clean edge. Leave a small margin rather than cutting flush, so you have material to re-seat if an edge lifts later.

Done carefully, this gives you working insect protection for a modest price. Now the honest limits. Gaps are the weakness: any wave in the mesh, any corner that lifts, any spot where the frame is not flat, and mosquitoes will find the way through, which defeats the whole point. Stick-on kits also bear no load. They will not hold a leaning toddler, a curious cat, or even a strong gust flexing the mesh. And they sit permanently across the opening, so cleaning the window means peeling something off.
