Here is what they publicly offer, going only by their own site: a scratch-resistant, vinyl-coated polyester and PVC mesh on a retractable frame, described as strong enough for cats up to 20 kg, a spin lock system that stops cats and kids sliding the screen open, drill-free removable installation that suits HDB flats and rental homes, and coverage for windows and balconies. Their homepage lists a 1-year warranty on mesh products. Prices are not published, so you would need to ask for a quote.

None of that is a reason not to compare. Cat mesh is a stay-for-years purchase, and the option you saw first is not automatically the best fit for your windows, your cat or your budget. So here are five other options worth a look, with what each does well. We would rather you compare properly than buy blind, whether from us or anyone else.

Why compare beyond one brand?

A few practical reasons, especially for cat homes.

• Load ratings are not all measured the same way. One provider tests for a cat's body weight, another quotes what the frame holds when pushed. 4. Mozziefy

How to actually compare quotes

Whichever options you shortlist, compare like for like.

• Same openings. Count every window and door, including the toilet and kitchen ones, and get every quote for that same list.
